Dmitry Peskov, Director of the "Young Professionals" direction of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives

DEAR PARTICIPANTS AND GUESTS OF NDEXPO 2017 FORUM – HIGH TECHNOLOGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT,

The history of the Russian nuclear industry is a perfect example of how to ensure leadership in the global market for many years to come. This includes the gathering a talented team of engineers with the challenge of achieving ambitious, almost impossible tasks, providing  the most favorable environment for advanced technological developments, being the first in the world to create demand for such technologies and  establishing your own rules and standards on the new market.

The National Technology Initiative (NTI) is an intention = collaboration of hundreds of successful technological teams to repeat the success of the breakthrough that was made during explorations of  outer space and the atom, and to return to Russia its position as a leader in the most prospective and capital-intensive markets. These markets do not currently exist, but there are obvious prerequisites for their formation.

It is important to understand that NTI is an initiative comprised of people, not organizations. It doesn’t matter for NTI who is behind the breakthrough technological solution. It can be a small startup or a R&D center of a large industrial giant. The only importance is the technological solution and the team that is capable to progress qualitatively and quickly.

The largest systemically important companies have both advantages and serious risks concerning global competition in the new markets. Some of the advantages include a scientific and technological base, a great stock of resources, the ability to find and cultivate  talented engineers and to provide all conditions for the work of such teams. But the effort of such companies towards stability, bureaucratic management and accounting systems can greatly impede such teams, leading to slow development with no room for fast and cheap failures.

Therefore, there is a challenge for NTI state corporations. The answer to this includes  being ready for a change of current situations on all levels: from the way of thinking and managing to a marketing policy that revolves around the end consumer without intermediaries.
Today, NTI has formed stable working groups in  nine prospective markets and new market areas. The candidates and  six roadmaps for NTI markets have been approved and their implementation has already begun. The new system for talent cultivation is formed through professionally oriented projects and early development projects, a network of hobby clubs and technological competitions and contests. Russian institutes of innovative ecosystem development have already included NTI programs of development and support in their strategies.

Progressive Russian universities are creating a model for a new university type, which is based on the creation and transfer of new technologies and competency centers. NTI is supported by the government on all levels while maintaining all of the properties of a public initiative.
On the set of the 4th International NDExpo 2017 Forum – High Technologies for Sustainable Development, we plan to discuss the development trends of markets and technologies in such NTI areas as: EnergyNet, TechNet, HealthNet, MariNet, SafeNet, as well as a possible synergy from Rosatom involvement in the implementation of these projects.

ASI has a positive experience  previously working with Rosatom in the implementation of another initiative, Staffing of Russian Industries with New Generation of Workers and Engineers, and its WorldSkills Russia project.

I am certain that the NDExpo 2017 Forum will allow for prospective Rosatom formats of NTI involvement and implementation to be reached and will contribute towards joining forces in order to develop new high-technology sectors for domestic economy as a whole.

I wish all participants of the forum productive and interesting work, as well as the gaining of new experience and development of successful solutions in all their tasks!
